in the schools in Vistica and Otlja will be finished in 2 weeks.
2.Refugees
Regarding the examination of 3 pupils that need to receive
certificates in order to be able to continue their education in some of
the secondary schools in Macedonia, UNICEF informed that a meeting was
held today (04/04/2002) in PS Braka Ramiz i Hamid where all the necessary
details were discussed and agreed.
UNICEF informed that Albanian speaking children settled in
CC Katlanovo have not been attending school for 2 weeks. UNICEF and UNHCR
will investigate the reasons for the drop out.
3.Other Education Programmes
UNICEF started the implementation of Creativity,
Lifeskills and Tolerance Promotion programmes for children and youth in
the Tetovo Pioneer House.
The School Support Units (SSU) in Katlanovo and Suto
Orizari have just started working (the implementing agency is still
negotiating with the school in Trubarevo). It was made clear that the SSUs
are only additional support for the pupils that regularly attend school
and they are not supplementary to the regular classes.
The Ministry of Education and Science together with
respective institutions are working on Human Rights curriculum
development.
