Update on school rehabilitation
UNICEF provided the latest update on the commitments
of the German KFOR regarding school rehabilitation. However, in a couple
of villages other agencies' plans to carry out rehabilitation overlap.
(see list attached).
Status on school reconstruction
- In approximately 10 days CRS will be intervening
in 9 schools. In addition, they will apply for QIPS for further intervention
in Lopate and 25 May in Skopje.
- SC have assessed 3 schools, however, the schools
catered for pupils of Albanian ethnicity. SC expressed the need of information
concerning conflict-affected schools for Macedonian pupils as they need
to keep the ethnic balance in their projects.
- CESVI is not reconstructing anything at the moment,
however, they expressed interest to rehabilitate a kindergarten in Orizari,
Kumanovo.
- WV will rehabilitate 4 schools out of which 3 are
in the conflict area. They will also submit 2 proposals for QIPS for
the villages of Brezanovce and Opaje. Regarding the rehabilitation of
v. Nerashte WV is still waiting for the answer of the donor. In addition,
they are planning to reconstruct v. Vinicani in Gradsko.
- DRC are rehabilitating the school windows in Sipkovica.
Status on distribution of textbooks
UNICEF informed that the distribution of textbooks has
been completed and that of the school kits is still on-going.
Update on IDPs and refugees
UNHCR reported that some problems occurred in
the CC Katlanovo regarding school attendance of the refugees. Initially,
they attended school in Sredno Konjare and Katlanovo, however for some
reasons they are not attending school any more.
To meet the needs of the refugees, UNHCR is organizing a seminar through
a psychosocial group. The target group includes the teachers, the local
community, and the refugees. The objective is to facilitate school attendance
and install a sense of confidence amongst the various groups.
