July 1 - July 7, 2002 SKOPJE, July 8th, 2002 HUMANITARIAN SITUATION Displaced persons According to the latest registration, the current number of IDPs accommodated in host-families is 13,837 and total of 2.514 are accommodated in collective centers. According to the UNHCR, the number of refugees in Kosovo (ethnic Albanians) is 8.000. HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE Food The International Red Cross Committee is carrying out registration of IDPs in the collective centers, so the distribution of food for July is not completed yet. ECHO temporarily stopped the distribution of food for IDPs accommodated in host-families, and this process will continue after the completion of the registration carried out by the MCRC/ICRC. The German Red Cross announced that the collective centers in Gevgelija and Dojran would be closed and the IDPs that cannot return to their homes will be accommodated in Skopje. Health The IRC has its medical centers in the villages of Grusino, Brest and Malino. The German Red Cross will continue with the distribution of baby diapers and baby food for children up to three years of age until September of this year. Infrastructure Additional €3,6 million are to be approved by the EU for additional reconstruction of approximately 200 houses that suffered damage from category three and four. Schools The reconstruction of the schools in Matejce and Lukare continues. The rehabilitation of the schools in Gosince and Brest is to be completed these days. Humanitarian de-mining The de-mining activities in three Skopje villages (Tanusevci, Malino and Brest) is being carried out by the ITF, while the Care International and Handicap International will be included after funds are provided from donors. A mine field was discovered in the forest above the village of Alasevce. The de-mining will start after a de-mining team is provided. HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION Financing
