Psycho-social activities - MCIC Situation Reports

25 March - 31 March

The UNHCR continues to carry out the swift impact projects. Two projects with psychosocial focus have been approved for the Kumanovo area.

Volunteers of the "Save Childhood" organization are paying visits to the IDPs accommodated in the collective centers in Skopje.

28 Januar - 3 February

The family center in Kumanovo is closed, however the psychosocial centers in Skopje - Suto Orizari and in Tetovo remain open. The SOS line for psychosocial support is still functional.

26 November - 2 December

The SOS Kumanovo will start with psychosocial activities for the citizens of Lipkovo municipality. The psychosocial support is realized in the collective centers in Kumanovo.

The organization "For happy family" organizes workshops for children from different age in Tetovo and Brvenica.

The ARC launched a series of workshops for confidence building in the regions impacted by the crisis. The ARC printed 3,500 leaflets in Macedonian language and 2,000 in Albanian language for the IDPs.

19-25 November

The Philology Faculty from Skopje organized a seminar for teachers, pedagogy workers, psychologists and school directors for dealing with stress situations and reduction of stress, so they could help to the children to overcome the traumatic experiences.

Safe Childhood has seven mobile teams who work in the collective centers and in the host-families.

29 October - 4 November

The International Federation of the Red Cross and the Macedonian Red Cross has established info - center for psychosocial support of IDP's.

22-28 October

NGO "Save the Children" in co-operation with the US Committee for refugees is carrying out a new project for the displaced persons from crisis areas, who reside at the collective centers "Pelagonija", "Ranka Milanovikj" and "T.S. Senikj". Children from these centers will be organized to visit cinemas, theatres as well as cultural manifestations. The project encompasses children from the Tetovo and Skopje region who reside in the centers and will last six weeks.

8-14 October

Medjashi, SASM, OOSM and ROZM "Daja" continuously work on providing psychosocial support to the displaced children and women.

1-7 October

UNICEF, in collaboration with Nansen Centre and the local NGO, Multi-kultura, has established a family center in Tetovo.

24-30 September

Megasi, SAZM, OOZM and ROZM "Daja" work on the psycho-social support of the displaced women and children.

3-9 September

UNICEF's psycho-social working group is seeking for partners from the local NGOs in order to realize the planed activities.

27 August - 2 September

The UNICEF is active in summer camps for coping with stress in regions with a larger concentration of IDP, such as Skopje and Tetovo. Three summer camps are operational in Kumanovo. They offer a variety of sports and recreations, psychosocial consultations, health education, caring for and development in the early childhood, mine hazard activities etc.

20-26 August

The Association for social-humanitarian initiatives "Horizonti", will organize free courses for 38 children from the homes "Ranka Milanovic", "25 Maj" and "1 Maj" from the areas of English language courses, barber and hair styling and drivers license training.

13-19 August

The standard activities of for women's NGOs for psycho-social help of IDP in collective centers and there information centers are taking place.

30 July - 5 August

UNICEF provides psychosocial support for displaced children in Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, and in all collective centres.

SOZM, SAZM, OOZM, ROZM "Daja" and Megasi continues their psychosocial support for children and women.

The First Children Embassy "Megasi" organized summer tour to Ohrid for 47 children from different ethnic composition from the collective centres, from August 8 - 17, 2001.

23-29 July

UNICEF provides psychosocial support for displaced children in Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, and in all collective centres.

The activities in the Women Centre in Kumanovo, consisted of 9 women organizations, are ongoing. For the IDPs this centre represents a crisis centre, where psychosocial support to women is provided through group conversations.

16-22 July

Eight women NGOs started psychosocial activities for IDPs.

3-8 July

Since the beginning of the crisis, the nongovernmental humanitarian organization "Save the children" through workshops, play and other activities help animate the children from the endangered areas, settled in the student homes "Rajko Zinzifov", "Senic" and "Ranka Milanovic".
