Food Sector Coordination Meeting

FOOD  SECTOR COORDINATION MEETING
March 28th, 2002

WFP office Skopje

IDPs and Conflict-Affected Population

The number of IDPs and conflict-affected residents that received food aid during the month of March are not yet finalized. The numbers of each beneficiary category will be reported to WFP in the first week of April.

The plan to assist these beneficiaries in the immediate future has not changed since the last meeting:

IDPs: ICRC and Intersos will continue to assist IDPs. ECHO is prepared to fund this assistance through the autumn but will conduct a needs assessment at the end of the summer to determine the necessity of continuing this aid.

Residents of conflict areas: Assistance to these beneficiaries was planned to end in March; however, ICRC will conduct a needs assessment of the residents in the Crna Gora area to determine if food aid should continue for these residents through June.

Refugees

UNHCR will distribute food to refugees through June using food commodities supplied by WFP in December. After June, ECHO will fund UNHCR to supply the commodities to this caseload through December 2002. ECHO/MPDL will continue to supply complementary food through June 2002.

Social Cases

ECHO will fund Intersos to assist approximately 5,000 social cases until the autumn 2002.

The next meeting of the Food Aid Coordination Committee will be held at the WFP office (Rade Koncar Building, III Makedonska Brigada bb) on 9 May 2002 at 10h00.
